Courage is the key

Receiving your first wig and getting a feel for it is equivalent to a kid getting a new toy. The excitement is high and it consumes your every thought. You want to touch it, and play with it. You even dream of wearing it proudly and showing it off to the world.

However, unlike a new toy, wearing a wig for the first time in public can also be a very daunting endeavor. Insecurity creeps in. Will anyone know it’s a wig or will they believe it’s my real hair? What will they say? I needed to think about this a little more.

After a couple of weeks of messing around with this prize possession, I found that there was more to styling it than I first thought. It’s not quite the same, but it’s almost like dealing with my own hair (when I had it😁).

However, this process requires some tools that are made specifically for wigs. Certain types of combs, brushes and other products which are recommended by my AHGs. Time to go back to the internet to obtain the right instruments to get the job done.

So now that I had familiarized myself with my wig and got the right tools, I began to manipulate it by using my fingers, combs & brushes, even a spritz of water. Hey, how about that AHG recommended piecing cream? Mirror check. Font, back, sides. Voila! Now this looks good enough to actually wear out in public. Oh! And, don’t forget the hair spray!

It’s time. I mustered up my courage and pushed aside those little insecure thoughts that have held me back. I was ready to head out the front door. I found my confidence. Now let’s show this baby off!!!
